Jimmy Ko Ming-chak won the UBS Hong Kong Open qualifying tournament at Fanling yesterday to secure a spot against some of the European Tour elite next month. The 19-year-old amateur (pictured) shot a 66 on Monday and 71 yesterday to clinch one of the five berths on offer and also claim the Nick Faldo Series Hong Kong Championship title. It was not smooth sailing, however, particularly after a double bogey on the 15th. 'It's the first time I've beaten the pros in a tournament. I was hoping [to finish] one or two under, but was feeling a little nervous after the double bogey so I [made] a couple of mistakes,' Ko said. 'I think the Hong Kong Open is a very good experience for my golf career and I will try to finish top 30 - that is my target,' Ko said. Others who earned their place in the SAR showpiece were Derek Fung, Dominique Boulet, Tang Shing-chi and Tong Man-kee, who won his spot with a birdie on the second hole of a play-off.
