on style, she rules

I've just bought the most darling pair of finest suede pumps but I'm scared to wear them out of the house. Could you recommend a spray solution?

Purr Suede Me, Ap Lei Chau

The Dictator rules: Spray solution? Why am I imagining something out of a Batman episode? You could do with something to snap you out of the panic. Even a spray of canned Evian would do - we of course mean on your face and nowhere near those precious suede shoes. For those, you'll need a protecting spray. At The Groom shoe repair chain, staff recommend Invulner Protector by Saphir (HK$68; shop 112, World Wide Plaza, 19 Des Voeux Road Central, tel: 2877 1426; www.thegroomshoesrepair.com). Meanwhile, The Top Shoes Repair & Lock Centre stands by Tarrago's protector spray (HK$85; shop B, G/F, 35 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2530 0978). Spray before wearing the shoes, and don't even think about flaunting them on a rainy day, protector or not.

Help. I've set my heart on buying a woman's Great White Shirt for autumn but everything I've seen so far has been incredibly uninspiring. I've heard great things about Anne Fontaine's white shirt collection so I'm eager to see it. But a Google search provided me with no clues as how to find her wares here in Hong Kong.

Short-shirted, Causeway Bay

The Dictator: Unless you Googled with a great white bag over your head, we're not sure how your search could have failed. The brand told us: 'You can't yet find our products in Hong Kong.' However, you can place online orders through the label's website, www.annefontaine.com. There's your answer, but we couldn't leave it there. We found countless fabulous, unusual white shirts for you right here in Hong Kong. It's no surprise to us that Emporio Armani (shop 101, Chater House, Central, tel: 2532 7777) and Calvin Klein (shop A, Melbourne Plaza, 33 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2526 8808) offer basic to intricate takes on the white shirt (HK$1,200 to HK$3,400). Diane von Furstenberg does more than dresses, including blouses with dramatic sleeves and collars (HK$2,000 to HK$2,800; shop 306, The Landmark, Central, tel: 2522 8782). More pleasant surprises await at Hugo Boss, which has a shirt with layered, diagonal pleats on the front (HK$3,600), and at Elie Tahari, whose offerings have intentional gaps in the seams or braided details (HK$2,100 to HK$2,900; both at Lane Crawford, Times Square, Causeway Bay, tel: 2118 3683). Italian brand 6267 makes amazingly structured shirts (HK$4,600 to HK$5,300) while Hidy Ng's shirts have a Victorian style and beading (HK$2,900; both at Harvey Nichols, The Landmark, tel: 3695 3388). Patrizia Pepe unexpectedly deconstructs the classic white shirt (HK$2,090 to HK$2,990; shop 325, Times Square, tel: 2506 1108). At the new-ish Ted Baker store, white shirts come with pin-tuck details or a simple tie neck (HK$1,300; shop 147, Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2918 9609). Looking for something less than HK$1,000? Check out the selection at Club Monaco (HK$550 to HK$790; G/F, 16 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2118 2989).

I read somewhere there was a Colette Dinnigan fashion show, but I can't find any of her stores in Hong Kong. Can you help without sending me to Australia?

Avid Coletter, SoHo

The Dictator: Come on, people, it's really not that hard to find brands. Well, if you know how to spell the name correctly, that is. You need an extra 'l' in there, and I don't think I need to tell you what that stands for in your case. Being dim-witted, you must lose often enough as it is. It's Collette Dinnigan and she's actually from New Zealand, but we grant you the brand has roots in Australia. Read all about her at www.collettedinnigan.com. You'll find her feminine, dress-driven collections, each with varying degrees of beading, lace and va-va-voom appeal, in a few places in Hong Kong. The Swank carries the label in Central (shop 202, Alexandra House, tel: 2868 2017) and in Tsim Sha Tsui (shop L103, The Place, New World Centre, tel: 2736 8567). You'll also find Collette Dinnigan pieces at Harvey Nichols (tel: 3695 3388).
