C'est bon as the French chalk up more winners
THE current French domination of local racing continued yesterday with Arc-winning jockey Eric St Martin riding a double for his current trainer, former champion Brian Kan Ping-chee.
With Eric Legrix also riding a winner, the incredible strike rate of the French over the past month showed no sign of abating despite the enforced absence of Gerald Mosse.
St Martin struck in the third event when last start winner Super Delight (18-1) made a mockery of his betting quote to win by just over six lengths.
This was the horse involved in the Mosse careless riding ban and he won yesterday like an odds-on favourite.
When St Martin set him alight half way down the straight the Class Four, 1,800-metre event was over in a matter of strides.
For the record - and that's about all it is worth - Run Archie Run (8-1) finished second and topweight Sweet Win (8-1) third.
Race favourite Highland Laddie (3-1) finished seventh after a bumping duel inside the final 200 metres but it made no difference.
There was no surprise about the second leg of the Kan and St Martin double with Fairmount (2-1 favourite) safely obliging in the sixth event, a modest Class Five longer sprint.
Fairmount, going easily in the run, won readily from Hattrick (18-1), who continued recent improvement, with 80-1 rank outsider Viva St Paul's taking third place.
Topweight King Spot (15-1) ran a reasonable fourth while Wonderful (6-1) finished fifth. Despite his good run behind Jharna at Happy Valley recently, this fellow could end up an expensive proposition.
