The sounds of samba provided the soundtrack to the lively Foreign Correspondents' Club's ball on September 15 at the Convention and Exhibition Centre.

With Brazilian legend Sergio Mendes providing entertainment, the ball raised more than HK$8 million for the Po Leung Kuk Scholarship fund through the auctioning of celebrity and sports memorabilia. More than 1,000 guests sang and danced the night away, and children from the charity added colour to the evening by dressing in carnival costumes to greet the arrivals. Among the guests were Selina Chow Liang Shuk-yee, Mexican Consul General Mario Leal, Gina Rinehart, David Ferraris, Gordon Fuller, and FCC president Christopher Slaughter.
