180,000 flats to be rewired by 2014

More than 180,000 flats in 68 public housing estates will be rewired by 2014 in a HK$580 million project, a housing official said. Fourteen estates have already been rewired under the scheme, launched in 2005. Six estates - Choi Hung, Cheung Hong, Ma Tau Wai, Tai Hing, Lek Yuen and Pak Tin - are scheduled to be completed next year. The remaining 48 estates will be upgraded over the next seven years. Tenants will not be charged.
