Soccer referee, players assaulted

Five soccer players, including three off-duty police and a referee, were beaten up by a team of seven players in Sha Tin, police said yesterday. The 22-year-old referee was assaulted first by the seven, who were unhappy with his decision during a match at Tsang Tai Uk playground in Sha Kok Street at about 10.35pm on Thursday. When the team's players, including the three off-duty policemen, tried to stop the fight, they were also assaulted, police said. The seven men, aged between 32 and 45, were arrested. They have been released on bail of HK$500 each. The five people assaulted were treated at Prince of Wales Hospital.
