Quest For Love can find perfect match at Valley
The David Ferraris-trained Quest For Love has had a while between celebration drinks but the addition of Happy Valley mastermind Douglas Whyte and a serious race tempo can make all the difference in the Wayfoong Centenary Bowl (1,650m) tonight.
The gelding hasn't scored since winning off a 61-rating at Sha Tin in April last year, but Quest For Love's consistency in the ensuing time has ensured that he has not received a great deal in the way of ratings relief.
Quest For Love hasn't been further back than seventh in any race since that win but his current mark of 63 is as low as he has been and he continues to show enough form to think he is well capable off that mark in a wide open feature to end tonight's Valley programme.
His opener this season was very sound behind King Hogan when the race was run at a painfully slow tempo. Quest For Love has always done better with some speed on.
That should not be an issue this time around as Le Rossignol (Paul Lo Pak-hin), Fat Dragon (Way Leung Ming-wai), Well Noted (Manoel Nunes) and All Time High (Marco Chui Kwan-lai) all like to get out and roll, and even Super Charge (Thomas Yeung Kai-tong) and Kowloon Fit (Anthony Delpech) will be pushing up for prominent positions.
That adds up to a good speed and Whyte should be able to camp just off them from gate five and give the five-year-old something to run at.
Whyte's only previous ride on Quest For Love resulted in a seventh over 1,800m in June, but he didn't get a lot of room and should have been closer.
Le Rossignol gives Lo a chance to break his winning drought, and his biggest issue is how much pressure he is under from that draw as others try to go forward with him early.
But Lo has options from gate one and his mount has been able to tuck into the box seat before and run well.
His first two runs this season have been excellent at Sha Tin and the Valley holds no fears for Le Rossignol based on his previous efforts.
Also well drawn and showing some worthwhile form are Fat Dragon and Add The Fun (Olivier Doleuze) and they will be serious dangers in a tough trophy event for the night.
