KL pumps up the volume

Malaysia's live music scene usually makes the news over the strict dress code requirements imposed on stars such as Gwen Stefani, but a concert series starting next month promises to put the nation on the musical map for much more positive reasons.

Live & Loud KL 07, from November 23 to December 2, will see a host of big names performing at various venues throughout Kuala Lumpur, including Whitney Houston, Shaggy, James Morrison, Kool and the Gang and the James Taylor Quartet. For further details go to lnlkl.com.

Bittencourt to show his metal

Rafael Bittencourt, of Brazilian metal band Angra, will be in Hong Kong on November 9 to host a guitar clinic organised by Tom Lee Music.

It will be held from 7.30pm at the Tom Lee Academy Hall, Level 12, MegaBox, Kowloon Bay. Tickets cost HK$60 at Tom Lee Music centres.

Party time at The Underground

Those funky folks at The Underground are making a big deal out of their 49th show.

The organisers plan to pull out all the stops by booking Audiotraffic, arguably Hong Kong's biggest indie band, who played at the first Underground show. Also appearing at the November 17 show at The Cavern in Lan Kwai Fong will be Japanese experimentalists Very Ape, indie rockers Violent Jokes and a 'mystery band'. Tickets will be HK$100, or HK$80 for students.
