Yuan Zhi is a wild plant found in South China and is traditionally used to balance and soothe the mind and body. Molton Brown has launched a Yuan Zhi sleep mist (HK$390) to aid sleep, which in addition to the key ingredient includes lavender, bergamot and ylang ylang.

Xanthan gum is a natural emulsifier produced from fermented sugar. It is often used in foods such as salad dressings because of its viscosity and is also used in cosmetics as an emulsifier - usually to stabilise water-based gels and water-based liquids which also contain oil.

Zingiber zerumbet is the botanical name for ginger extract, which is taken from a plant in the zingiber family. It is thought to be a skin irritant when applied topically, but is said to have softening benefits to the hair and may be found in shampoos and conditioners. It is said to have anti-inflammatory properties when taken internally.
