There are hundreds of cosmetic brands available in Hong Kong and more are entering the market each year. Beauty aficionados, it seems, have an insatiable appetite for more and the market keeps expanding. Almost HK$9.5million worth of cosmetics and toiletries were imported last year, an 11 per cent increase on the previous year. Here's a round-up of some of the newest arrivals.

Korner Skincare

After more than 100 years in the industry, the Korner name finally arrives in Hong Kong. The company was established by Madame Korner as a laboratory for the development of formulas and products for use in beauty salons and training schools, and her granddaughter, Rebecca Korner, launched a retail product range three years ago. The line is built around plant, marine and mineral extracts, all sourced for their ability to help protect skin from elements such as pollution and sun. Product categories are separated into those for the face and the body, and there is one anti-ageing product, the Loaded Anti-Ager. This rich cream is packed with ingredients ultimately to stimulate fast cell renewal, increase moisture levels and provide nourishment, and essentially, a younger, firmer, smoother skin, the brand says. The company's neat, simple packaging combined with a hi-tech approach to skin care won it the best new beauty product in the Wallpaper Design Awards.

Body Farm

A Greek brand founded 20 years ago with a philosophy based on the creation of cosmetics using natural ingredients. It started by supplying Greek pharmacists, hypermarkets and department stores with pharmaceutical products and cosmetics. According to the brand, products are entirely free of synthetics such as parabens and mineral oils, which some industry insiders believe to be harmful to the skin. Instead, it uses vegetable oils to hold its formulas together. Ingredients include pomegranate, rose, almond oil and olive oil, as well as lilies, honey and sandalwood. The product range, which was launched in Hong Kong this summer, includes a face and body range, as well as hair care and sun care lines.
