It takes a certain finesse to balance the pressures coming from your boss with staff struggling to meet deadlines. According to the marketing manager of city'super, Bonnie Chow Wing-yan, the key element is trust.
'Your boss will give you a task and you need to be honest. Keep updating them on what's going on, even if there are problems,' she said.
'At the same time, encourage staff and work with them to solve problems they encounter, even if they make mistakes.'
In her middle management role, Ms Chow oversees marketing for nine outlets in Hong Kong and Taiwan, including two LOG-ON stores. She handles marketing communications, visual merchandising and design and also promotes the company's Culture Club cooking school.
The company employs about 1,200 people and calls itself a 'mega lifestyle speciality store'. It prides itself on selling gourmet food and quality daily necessities.
'Our produce range is very different,' Ms Chow said. 'We are not local vendors, our buyers source our products overseas and import them from all over the world.'
