Top Tips: Ron Robinson

Apothia fragrance creator Ron Robinson talks about how to apply perfume: 'Fragrance is about an experience, not about covering up a smell. Some people spray on so much that when you walk into a room you can smell them three metres away. I don't think most people want to be this way - to be smelt from such a distance.

'In our internet research we asked people how and where they put on their fragrance. We got a lot of bold answers: 'I rub it on my cleavage or on my arm'.'

How do you apply fragrance? 'You should start with two sprays and see how that works. And there's no rule book that says you cannot re-apply your fragrance during the day.

'Fragrance will smell different depending on your skin texture. With darker skin and tighter pores it will sit on top of the skin and with lighter skin it goes right in.

'Don't rub your wrists together. You're heating the composition of the skin and destroying the way perfume should unfold. Instead of letting the notes unfold gradually you're going straight to the bottom note because of the heat created when rubbing your wrists. The top note should come off the skin first, followed by the middle and then the bottom should be last.'
