Nature's calming influence

Taking advantage of the cool weather, I abandoned my homework and went hiking with my brother recently. We ran up a steep slope. When we arrived at the top, we saw people's homes from afar. It was a marvellous scene! The houses were like small boxes with a bright blue sky and white clouds above.

We breathed in the fresh air and enjoyed the beautiful green scenery.

We touched pretty flowers and searched for tiny creatures hiding in branches.

Indulging ourselves in such a pleasant environment, we felt completely relieved. We felt all our burdens had been lifted.

Boys and girls! Do you feel stressed when you study or when you tackle social problems?

Do you want to get rid of all your anxieties and pressures? Just visit nature and enjoy the peaceful scenery. She will always be waiting for you.

From the Editor

Thanks for your letter, Wang-yi. I, too, am a keen hiker - and I'm out hiking in the country parks every Sunday now that we've hit the hiking season.

I bought an excellent hiking book by Pete Spurrier - The Serious Hiker's Guide to Hong Kong - which I would really recommend if you want to get to make the most of the city's great trails. For the past few weekends a friend and I have been doing the Lantau Trail. We take the ferry over to Lantau on Sunday morning and hike for about five hours - and when we go back the following Sunday we pick up where we left off.

Lantau is fabulous for hiking - and on a clear day the view from Lantau Peak is fantastic. If you've done a great hike recently, I'd love to hear about it.
