The Housing Society is extending its scheme offering financial help to owners for renovation of old buildings, at a cost of HK$20 million. The scheme, which previously covered buildings over 20 years old with up to 200 flats, will now apply to those with up to 400 flats. The society expects the change to benefit owners of 500 buildings. Three-quarters of the city's 19,000 buildings 20 years old or more will be covered. The scheme provides HK$3,000 per flat towards the cost of renovating and maintaining common areas.
