Sony Ericsson K850i

Smartphones

It doesn't look like much from the outside. SonyEricsson's K850i is not particularly small or thin, nor does it have a large, futuristic touchscreen or a huge internal hard disk drive.

But a closer look at the features proves this is a pretty impressive phone with a high quality camera.

As the last of the company's Cybershot crossover product series, the K850i is SonyEricsson's first 5 megapixel model, raising it to the ranks of other high-end camera phone models like the Nokia N95.

Together with improved image resolution, the K850i is the first SonyEricsson phone to incorporate dedicated hardware buttons that switch between camera and review mode, like a standard digital camera.

The K850i also offers more shooting options than most camera phones, such as ISO settings for light-sensitivity, and comes with a powerful built-in xenon flash and a memory stick micro slot.

Besides the camera, the K850i is a quad-band GSM phone with 3G and HSDPA communications support.

You can expect most of the usual suspects in the K850i, including web browser, e-mail, RSS client, games, Java, calendar, organiser and Bluetooth, as well as Flash animation support. The K850i also comes with a built-in FM radio and a second, VGA-quality camera for 3G calls.

Like most top-end camera phones, the K850i comes with a hefty price tag, set at HK$4,680.

And when compared with its main rival, the Nokia N95, it is hard not to notice the lack of

Wi-Fi connectivity and limited productivity software support.

Pros: 5 megapixel image resolution, dedicated camera keys, HSDPA and 3G support, Flash animation support

Cons: no Wi-Fi, no productivity software support, still chunky, pricey
