Vegetable oil producers have been urged by the National Development and Reform Commission to boost supplies to ease the pain that record prices are having on consumers.
Besides rising fuel prices, domestic vegetable oil prices, including soya oil and rapeseed oil, hit record highs last week, due to soaring international prices.
The mainland is the world's largest consumer of vegetable oils and has become a net importer of palm oil, soya beans and soya oil due to rising demand over the past 10 years.
Vegetable oil producers should not reduce supplies by hoarding raw materials, monopolising supplies or restricting production, the commission said.
It issued a notice last month instructing commission officials to strengthen inspections of vegetable oil after a series of price rises.
