What is your favourite complication? Every new mechanical watch with just two hands. Obviously new complicated watches are always impressive and do attract a lot of attention from collectors, retailers, or the media, but a very simple watch brings back our consciousness to the two main indicators of time: the hour and the minute.

What is your favourite material in a watch? Many materials are important as they all make the watch. Components consist of steel and brass, cases of precious metals, straps of alligator leather. Recently, new materials such as tantalum and silicium were introduced into watches. It remains to be seen whether all material innovations reveal a substantial improvement to a watch in terms of accuracy or quality. I personally like the translucent shine of porcelain dials very much. It is a traditional, yet very delicate material. And only a few watch manufacturers are capable of incorporating porcelain dials into their timepieces. This is also due to a lack of supply: one rare example of outstanding artistic and technical competence though is the Meissen manufacturer which began producing porcelain in 1710. I believe that in its workshops the best and most beautiful dials are created.

What do you think is the best innovation of the year? Glashutte Original's Senator Sixties: the most authentic retro watch of the year.
