Plenty of designs to choose from

Carpets reached a level of exclusivity thanks to the hand-making process that originated in Central Asia and the Middle East.

However, the introduction of new technology allows for high-quality machine-made carpets. Carpet ranges include: Axminster, carpet tiles, Wilton-machine, machine tufted, pass-machine tufted, hand tufted, using a motorised hand-tufting gun, jet-printed machine tufted and needle punch or non-woven carpets.

Whether it's for commercial, residential or boutique contracts, choosing a carpet takes into account a wealth of factors. Originality, quality, material, number of knots per square inch, dyes and design are just some of the elements that come into play in selecting the best carpet for your home, office or other venue.

Robert Keilitz, managing director for Asia of the residential and boutique contract sector at Tai Ping Carpets, said: 'The process of finding the perfect match starts with choosing from an extensive archive of designs and modifying them to suit your personal taste in terms of colour, design, fibre and size.

'If a client doesn't like any of the designs, they can submit their own for us to produce, varying from rough sketches to fabric cuttings, to a piece of clothing the design was inspired from. Our in-house studio can then draw up a colour sketch.' He said there were many materials to choose from. Animal fibres range from wool and Berber wool to cashmere and mohair.

Plant fibres to choose from include jute, cotton, flax, linen or sisal and soy, and manmade ones include viscose.

'Once all the components are approved a client can either request a sample for final approval, or we can go straight into production if the client is confident enough in what they approved,' he said.
