Hong Kong's finest Happy Diwali. The law were the stars of last Sunday's Motorcycle Show, says its organiser, Ian Foster.
'The police were fantastic in bringing their bikes, allowing the public to sit on them and mingling with the crowds,' he says. 'Even the beat cops 'cut us some slack' by only asking us to move the illegally parked bikes that the Hong Kong Club had complained about.'
The well-organised show seemed busy and happy and has the makings of a fine tourist attraction.
Foster says next year's event could be bigger. 'I will ask the government for more space on Chater Road, beyond Ice House Street,' he says. 'More clubs and shops want to join.'
For the first time, bikers won trophies made from old engine components by 'Tom-the-Welder' of Sai Kung. The winners are:
Dunhill Best British Bikes: 1. 1971 Norton 750cc Cafe Racer (owned by David McKirdy) 2. 1961 BSA Gold Star Replica (Colin Davison) 3. 1973 Norton 850cc Commando (Tim Hesforth).
Best Classic Bike: 1972 Triumph Hurricane 750cc, (owned by Robbie Knight of the Classic Bike Club).
