Where? This concept store is in downtown Rome, in the Campo Marzio district - a historical site by the banks of the Tiber River. The area is dotted with ancient palazzos, sculptures and piazzas as well as trendy bars, cafes and shops.
Who? Owner Marina Coffa opened her first Tad boutique in 1991 in San Giacomo, in the Italian capital. In 1996, she added a production facility for interior decor pieces. Her first concept store - mixing fashion, homeware, food and more - was born in 2001. Last year, Coffa moved the concept store to its present site, on Via Del Babuino.
Fashion finds: look for women's clothing, accessories and footwear by luxury labels such as Chloe, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, Cacharel, Corpo Nove, Rohka, Comme des Garcons and Alessandro dell'Acqua.
The vibe: this multilevel store lies behind a discreet entrance featuring ambient lighting that slowly changes colour. The space juxtaposes painted walls with slick dark-wood floors. Look for a generous amount of colourful, modern art and an eclectic mixture of Philippe Starck pieces and antiques. Take a breather in the boutique's quaint cafe, set in a peaceful courtyard with a marble fountain.
The crowd: chic Italian ladies who lunch and their daughters.
Extras: apart from clothing, the store has a wide range of modern furniture and homeware by the in-house label as well as Starck, Kartell and Tom Dixon. Tad carries an impressive range of books, magazines, music and beauty products as well as flowers from Alessandra Rovati Vitali. Not in the mood for shopping? Indulge in some pampering at the full-service beauty salon or have a cocktail at the cafe.
