McDonald's MD faces kickbacks charge

McDonald's Restaurants (Hong Kong) Limited man aging director Joseph Lau Sze-shing, 47, was charged yesterday by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) for allegedly accepting illegal commissions in return for recommending and approving a company to supply corn to the fast food chain between May 2005 and April this year. The anti-corruption watchdog alleged that the illegal commissions had been paid to Lau at the rate of 10 per cent of the total sales amount for corn supplied by the food company to McDonald's. He will appear at Eastern Court this morning for mention.
