Upcoming artists are being given a chance to put their talent on display
A programme to fund and support new and original work by aspiring Hong Kong artists has been set up by the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation in association with Bloomberg.
The Bloomberg Emerging Artist Programme was launched in May. The first exhibition is The Happiest Hour by composer Samson Young and media artist Christopher Lau. It was selected from more than 130 submissions.
Over a period of three months the artists had been creating works using obsolete Nintendo Game Boys collected from all over Hong Kong.
Lau and Young said their project was inspired by childhood experiences.
Both were born in pre-handover colonial Hong Kong and grew up overseas.
'We hope to complicate the romanticised image of the innocent and pure child that these memorabilia often conjure up in our cultural imagination.'
