Alliance to cut mobile data roaming tariff
Conexus Mobile Alliance, an alliance of mobile-telephone operators led by Japan's NTT DoCoMo and Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong, yesterday announced a cut in 3.5G mobile data roaming charges by up to 80 per cent in an attempt to boost usage.
The alliance, which has nine mobile operators in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Indonesia, India and Singapore, will introduce a new 3.5G mobile data roaming tariff next year.
Mobile-phone users of alliance operators will be charged a daily flat rate while abroad and logging on to the alliance's network on mobile phones.
Meanwhile, China Mobile chairman Wang Jianzhou said there was still room to cut the tariff on international short messaging service.
