Toast the Christmas Beer Season
The Danish winter is harsh but, despite sub-freezing conditions, Copenhagen becomes magical for visitors and residents during the festive season, especially for beer lovers.
The Christmas Beer Season got under way on November 2 at 9pm sharp, as bar-goers nationwide were treated to the traditional first pint of Tuborg's Julebryg (Christmas brew) - on the house. But while Tuborg, which is owned by brewing giant Carlsberg, continues to dominate the supermarket shelves and the airwaves with its adverts, the recent surge in the number of microbreweries means that consumers now have a greater choice.
This year, 140 Christmas beers are available, created by 103 Danish breweries. Some of the more seasonal flavourings include caramel and cinnamon. Greenlandic Brewhouse's seasonal beer, Christmas, is made using melted inland ice from the heart of Denmark.
