Cutting it fine

England's Nick Faldo clung on to make his first halfway cut on the European Tour since 2004, despite stumbling over the closing holes. Faldo, 50, who carded a credible two-under 68 on the first day, looked to be cruising along. But a 'dreadful finish', which included dropped shots on three of his final four holes, meant Europe's Ryder Cup captain finished on a two-day total of 139 (one under par) to scrape through to the weekend rounds. 'That finish proves I made a damn good choice going to the booth,' said Faldo, in reference to his new career as a television analyst. When told he was guaranteed to earn Ryder Cup points as a result of his performance, the six-time major winner quipped: 'Yeah, that'll really scare them. It's sad that I finished ahead of half the field. Those guys won't be happy about that.'
