A novice disc jockey was all a-fluster before interviewing a government minister on radio this week.

Joker Rita Lai, 26, who is studying English for professional communication, was one of 12 aspiring DJs from City University to get a first taste of professional broadcasting this week as interns with Metro Radio.

Ms Lai and two fellow students interviewed Secretary for Development Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor.

'Before the interview I felt so scared, as if I was about to bungee jump,' she said. 'But afterwards I felt very refreshed.'

The students were selected in a contest in which students expressed their views on university life on air.

Perrie Lai Hoi-shan, programme development manager for Metro Radio, said she felt it was important to give young people the opportunity to air their views, and the chance to experience speaking on radio first hand.
