Hong Kong's World Cup dreams were shattered last night by lowly Turkmenistan, who scored a convincing 3-0 win in Ashgabat. Having held Hong Kong to a goalless draw at Hong Kong Stadium earlier this month, the SAR were no match for the 158th-ranked Turkmens, who ended the local squad's campaign with a goal in the 41st minute before finishing the match in style with two more goals inside the final 20 minutes. Hong Kong coach Kenny Lai Sun-cheung was hoping his charges would score an away goal, but the SAR failed to fire.
