There's more to life than school

It is shocking but not surprising to discover that lots of students like staying home instead of going out and observing life or gaining new experience.

It's a pity because we cannot really learn until we combine study with what we gain from living our lives.

For example, I went camping recently. I made new friends and challenged myself. It was a worthwhile experience. The most unforgettable element was that we went hiking at night as a group. We had to rely on each other. I really felt the power of team spirit.

Although we had to cook and keep warm, we learned a lot.

No matter how busy you are, do not forget that it's important to experience life.

From the Editor

Thanks for your letter, Eunice. Technology has helped us in so many ways, but one drawback is that it has made us more sedentary. Social networking sites like Facebook and the ease of instant messaging have changed the way we communicate - and people are spending a lot more time glued to their computer at home instead of going out and experiencing life.

The power of 'team spirit' that you experienced on your camping trip is something you couldn't have got by sitting in front of a computer. Now that you've had a taste for adventure, I hope that you'll make the most of this wonderful weather we're having and get out in the country parks. I'll be hiking on Lantau this weekend - perhaps I'll meet some of you on the trail.
