Local rugby fans will find it harder - and dearer - to get tickets to next year's Hong Kong Sevens.

Organisers said yesterday 1,000 fewer tickets would be available to the local public for the tournament at the 40,000-seat Hong Kong Stadium over the last weekend of March.

A total of 5,000 tickets will go on sale to the public at the stadium at 11am on December 8. Adult tickets will cost HK$1,080 - up from HK$880 this year - while children's tickets will stay at HK$300.

And because of the expected high demand, the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union has limited sales to two tickets per person. This year 6,000 tickets went on public sale with fans able to buy four tickets each.

'There are fewer tickets for the general public because there has been a big growth in local rugby club members and we had to account for them,' union executive director Allan Payne said yesterday.

'We still allocate 60 per cent of the total tickets to our members and the public but due to the increase in our members, we have been forced to reduce the number of tickets for the public.' he said.
