Do you think you have singing talent? If the answer is yes, here's your chance to test your vocal chords.

The Macao Cultural Centre Children's Choir is looking for new members and auditions are open to young people aged eight to 16.

Established in 2004, the 45-member choir has performed in Hong Kong and throughout Macau.

Music director Vanessa Leao said the majority of choirs in Macau are school-based and there were few opportunities to get involved in singing outside of school hours.

Ms Leao said the idea was to set up a choir that could perform at community events when requested.

'It was an idea from the Cultural Centre to promote good community relations,' she said.

'The choir allows young people interested in singing to pursue their interest and get formal training while having fun.'

Auditions will be held and participants will be allowed to sing some of their favourite songs as a start.

Ms Leao said singing is an excellent way to build self- confidence and learn to work as a team.

She said those who join the choir will be given lessons on inner hearing and oral training.

'[The experience] will be good for learning music and learning to be independent and confident in front of people,' she said. 'In addition, choir members will have to work closely with each another so they will learn to co-operate.'

Choir practice is held every Sunday from 11am to 1pm at the Macao Cultural Centre.

The registration fee is 20 patacas and the monthly fee is 150 patacas.

'It's about having some fun and meeting new people too,' Ms Leao said.

'The choir members will get to perform at different events.''
