Next up, a rock 'n' roll musical with plenty of eye candy

While its Swan Lake On Ice show is still continuing across the road at the Lyric Theatre, Lunchbox Productions hosted a big lunch for media and sponsors at the Grand Hyatt to announce their next big event. Chief executive James Cundall revealed they will bring the musical We Will Rock You, written by Ben Elton and using the music of Queen, to Hong Kong next May.

'It's a rock and roll musical. It's not a tribute band,' he emphasised, adding it would have a lot of 'eye candy'. 'It's not Shakespeare' but 'it's nice to just put your brain on hold every now and then'.

Well, I don't think anyone has ever compared Brian May and Freddie Mercury to Stephen Sondheim.

It's set sometime in the near future when 'real' music is banned and only corporate-approved 'GaGa' is allowed as a young rocker tries to break free. Naturally, they wrap the story around 26 of Queen's hits.

The show's star, Mig Ayesa (above), emerged during dessert to sing three of the show's hits, including Bohemian Rhapsody. If his name rings a bell, that's because he was a top-three finalist in the reality hit Rockstar: INXS. The show starts on May 16 at the Lyric Theatre. What we're curious about is how they'll work Fat Bottomed Girls into the narrative?
