Sailing venue factories in hot water
Factories polluting the waters that will host the Olympic sailing events in Qingdao next year face stiff fines and having their licences revoked. Eight food, chemical and textile companies have been blacklisted for 'causing excessive pollution' which could endanger the health of the 400 international athletes next August. Each has been handed a three-month deadline to upgrade waste-treatment facilities. 'If their waste water still does not meet the required standards, they will be fined and their sewage discharge licences will be revoked,' said an official.
