The cost of childhood

Kelly Chan

The Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association has suggested parents share the family's financial situation with their children after a survey found that a third of upper primary students do not know the cost of daily necessities and have no idea how much their school uniforms cost. The poll of 1,073 Primary Four to Primary Six children and 1,007 parents found that 65 per cent of the children did not ask their parents about the family's income and expenditures and 56 per cent of the parents said they did not tell their children those details, with many saying schools should offer such courses.
