Entrepreneur keeps finding different things to do
You can call Colette Koo the accidental entrepreneur. Almost by fluke, she started in the 1990s with Drop, one of the longest running clubs in town. Then, defying experts, she opened Scandinavian restaurant Finds when everyone else said 'who would want to try that?'.
Now, just as she's finally doing something in the artistic field - producing Antony Szeto's film Wushu - Koo is also opening two new Finds spin-offs while flying back and forth from location shooting in Shandong .
'It's a little bonkers,' Koo says. 'Everyone keeps asking 'why do you keep finding these high-risk things to do?' Fortunately, with Finds I have [business partner] Pauliina Savolainen.'
Finds cafeNbar officially launched its Elements location last night. Meanwhile, another outlet will have a soft opening in Causeway Bay today. 'The idea was to do something more European. Starbucks is very American - you hang out and have coffee and cake. Whereas with European-style cafes, you go in the morning and at night and you can have food and alcohol too. I think it's more flexible and suitable to Hong Kong lifestyles.'
Koo, back for only three days, added that she's enjoying the role of film producer. However, lunch options are extremely limited on location on the mainland. 'I miss western food. It's not that the food is bad in Shandong, but it's all the same. I even had KFC for the first time in 10 years, and you know what, it tasted really good.'
