'I believe in the judge, I also believe in justice. I have to,' Hui Wing said outside the District Court yesterday, before she entered and heard the guilty verdict handed down.

'I have not thought about my verdict too much before I came to court this morning. I try to calm myself and not to create too much pressure,' she said, adding she had become a vegetarian and Buddhist.

'I have no choice,' she replied when asked whether she regretted her affair with Mr X.

Refusing to talk about Mr X, she said everyone had a ruler in their hearts to tell them what was right and what was wrong.

When asked by the media whether she would have done the same things to Mr X if she had a choice, she said: 'I don't have a choice.'

Every day throughout the two-week trial Hui has had to face the cameras outside court.

Of this she said: 'Again, I have no choice and I can't escape.'

Hui Wing, a native of Hubei , has been working in a karaoke nightclub in Dundas Street, Mong Kok, since she came to Hong Kong in September last year. She met Mr X there through her work as a hostess.

Hui, who said she enjoyed reading literature, graduated from a mainland university with a degree in air-conditioning engineering.

She told the court her job required her to abandon her self-esteem and dignity. But she needed the job because she had to service repayments on more than HK$400,000 in mortgages for two properties she bought on the mainland.
