A senior manager from Luzhou Laojiao, a Shenzhen-listed liquor manufacturer, has defended the company's decision to ask more than 80 employees in Beijing to resign and then sign new contracts.

'We absolutely have not violated the law,' Wang Jianhui, the company's manger in charge of northern China, told the Beijing Morning Post. He declined to say why the firm would not renew contracts which would expire by December 31.
