Anti-corruption website overwhelmed

An official website dedicated to the government's anti-corruption efforts crashed a day after its debut due to an overwhelming number of hits, state media reported yesterday.

The National Bureau of Corruption Prevention website, yfj.gov.cn, was launched on Monday but was inaccessible on Tuesday afternoon, Beijing Youth Daily reported.

A representative from the Ministry of Supervision, which monitors corruption among government officials, told the newspaper that the meltdown occurred after 'too many visits' to the website. Repairs were carried out and normal service had resumed by Tuesday night, Xinhua said.

The bureau was launched in September in a government effort to spearhead the fight against corruption, a major source of social tension and unrest on the mainland. It co-ordinates the efforts of various disciplinary bodies and is headed by Ma Wen , the Minister of Supervision.
