Revellers have been warned to rug up if joining outdoor New Year countdown activities, as temperatures are expected to drop to 10 degrees Celsius. The Observatory issued its first cold-weather warning at 4.40pm yesterday. The Senior Citizen Home Safety Association said 1,212 people had sought help by 10pm. At least 78 were admitted to hospital. The Observatory said the cold was the result of an intense winter monsoon and temperatures would stay low over the next few days, returning to a warmer 19 degrees on Saturday.
