Two elderly women hit by trucks while crossing roads

An 80-year-old woman was fighting for her life after being hit by a truck in Tsz Wan Shan. Police said she was crossing Sheung Fung Street near Ming Fung Street when a truck hit her at 1pm. She was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with head injuries. The 37-year-old driver said he was dodging a minibus when the accident happened.

In a separate accident, a 71-year-old woman was injured when hit by a truck on Dundas Street at the junction with Canton Road, Mong Kok. The woman, surnamed Chan, was crossing the street when she was hit at 8.50am. She was taken to Kwong Wah Hospital with head injuries and was in a stable condition last night. The 39-year-old driver drove away after the crash, but police contacted him later.

Five arrested after brawl

Five men were arrested after a brawl in a Sai Kung village. Three surveyors aged 24, 35 and 47 entered an area of land in Sam Long at 2pm to carry out some work. An argument broke out when two brothers surnamed Wong, aged 54 and 57, said the three surveyors were trespassing. The dispute turned into a brawl and all five men were injured. The brothers and one of the surveyors were taken to United Christian Hospital.

Maggots infest man's mouth

An 81-year-old resident of a North District home for the elderly has become the city's 14th case this year of myiasis. The man went to North District Hospital complaining of bleeding gums and was found to have an infestation of maggots in his mouth.

Thirty evacuated over hill fire

Thirty people were evacuated when a hill fire broke out near Lo Wu at 4am. It was put out in three hours.

One ticket won the HK$5,000,000 first prize last night. The numbers were 15, 16, 21, 23, 37 and 45. The extra number was 4. Two tickets each won second prize of HK$640,415. Third paid HK$50,225.
