Kate Nash belongs to a new generation of singers: those who promote themselves online. The 20-year-old Irish singer established her music career by uploading tracks to MySpace.

With her distinctive voice and songs that told stories of everyday life, it didn't take long for Nash to win online fans.

Nash's second single Foundations reached No. 2 on the British singles charts and did well in other European countries. While her other two singles were less successful, Made of Bricks reached No. 1 on the UK album charts shortly after its release in August.

The 12-track indie rock album is full of playful beats, tinkly piano and strummed guitar. Opener Play is a dull song that tediously repeats 'I like to play / I play all day in my room'. Foundations is a relatable song about a confusing romance. Nash's simple writing style is reflected in lines like 'You've said I must eat so many lemons / Because I am so bitter'.

Other highlights are We Get On with its chirpy piano melody and Mariella which has a heavy, rhythmic bass line.

Nash's childish vocals are not for everyone. But the playful album reflects the attitudes of teens today and is bound to find fans.
