Pandas, Harry Potter and lunar orbiter top children's news list
The arrival of pandas Ying Ying and Le Le was the top news event of last year, according to a survey of 28,000 children by the Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association. Publication of the final Harry Potter book and the launch of China's first lunar orbiting satellite, Chang'e I, came second and third. The association said children wanted to see more positive news in the media.
Meanwhile, a survey by the Church of United Brethren in Christ Hong Kong found children would prefer more time with parents than receiving gifts. The study, which interviewed 5,321 Primary Three to Six pupils from 16 schools, found about 70 per cent said a harmonious family was the key element for a happy childhood.
Woman, 90, survives suicide bid
A 90-year-old woman who threw herself into the sea off North Point in a suicide attempt at 2.30pm yesterday was pulled from the water by two police officers and was in critical condition last night.
Two hit by tow-truck
A 24-year-old man and his girlfriend, also 24, were injured - the man critically - when they were hit by a large tow-truck on Wa Shun Street, Hung Hom, at 5.10am.
Reversing car slips down slope
A 53-year-old woman was slightly injured when her car plunged three metres down a slope while she was reversing on Repulse Bay Road.
Man arrested for drink-driving
A driver, 20, was arrested for drink-driving after his car overturned on the Yuen Long Highway near Long Tin Road, Yuen Long.
