Everything that's old is new again as Tam returns to his Peak
It seems that Alan Tam Wing-lun is really getting into the spirit of recycling. The veteran Cantopop star held a press conference on Friday afternoon at The Peak to promote his new record, which is a re-recording of an old album.
For the new CD, The Best Sound Ever Reborn, Tam has taken all the songs from an album he recorded 25 years ago, translated as The Root of Love, and updated their sound.
The original recording - featuring the hit Autumn in Love - sold more than 2 million copies. Tam is hoping to repeat that success.
'I remember when the original record was released,' Tam said. 'It was a time when a lot of Hongkongers moved to places like Canada and they took my music with them when they left. I heard that some people even use it as material to teach Chinese. The record was very meaningful for me.'
The reason the event was held at The Peak was so he could recreate the album's cover photo, complete with a similar white outfit and the same pose. He said the original vinyl disc now sold for more than HK$3,200.
The recycling theme even extends to the new CD's packaging. 'It is made of biodegradable material,' he said.
That's good to know if his old fans decide the new versions suck. Instead of trashing the CD, they can separate the plastic and paper for further recycling.
