Star Trek star beams in for school duties
with Andrew Sun. Additional reporting by Clara Mak.
In television and movies he's been Captain Picard and Professor X, but in real life, actor Patrick Stewart is also the chancellor of a West Yorkshire academic institution, the University of Huddersfield. In that capacity, the Englishman will boldly go where he's never gone before - arriving in Hong Kong tomorrow on school duties. The popular star of X-Men and the Star Trek: The Next Generation series will be here until Sunday promoting the university and performing some official functions. His visit ends with a private cocktail event on Friday night for guests and friends of the school and presiding over a graduation event for local Huddersfield students on Saturday. Sorry Trekkies: the graduation at the Caritas Community Hall, on Caine Road, is a private event.
Stewart will be accompanied by the university's vice-chancellor and pro-vice-chancellor for teaching and learning. Presumably he will personally award the degrees to each student rather than just sit in his chair, wave his arm and majestically order, 'Make it so, No1'.
