Master of Security Management, Edith Cowan University, Australia

This course is designed to meet the learning needs of professional security managers seeking to improve their skills and acquire in-depth and broad knowledge in security risk and risk management, security principles, security technology and security management. Students are equipped with relevant knowledge and skills in security management and security technologies necessary for employment in areas such as government security, private sector security, strategic facilities security, retail security, financial institutions security, corporate security and major security organisations. The programme emphasises the function and management of security technology in the protection of personnel, information and assets, and is supported by appropriate studies in law and ethics. It provides an internationally recognised course for security professionals and managers seeking career opportunities in military security, airport security management, retail and facilities security, risk and crisis management and security consulting. Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded the prestigious MSM degree of the Edith Cowan University. The degree will be the same as that awarded to on-campus students of the university. Graduates will be allowed to use the title GradCert (Security Management), GradDip (Security Management), MSM (Security Management) after their names. Graduation ceremonies are held every year in Perth, Australia and graduates are encouraged to attend. Requirements Applicants should have an undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution, or have significant industry experience to gain entry to the graduate certificate (stage 1) of the course. Advancement beyond stage 1 will depend on the course average being at least 60 per cent and aptitude to advanced study, and will have to be approved by the course co-ordinator. Duration This programme consists of 10 units which can be completed in 2 1/2 to three years of part-time study. Master of Security Management for Executives, University of Houston-Downtown, United States

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the continuously changing security environment. It is for individuals who have a vision of the future in the security industry and can demonstrate professional competency and commitment to their organisations and the community. This is a two-year programme offered on alternate Saturdays. Instructors include security industry leaders in addition to faculty from both the College of Public Service and the College of Business. The supervisory, or managerial experience, admissions requirement ensures that students will be participating in class discussions and projects with other students who understand the leadership environment.

Requirements Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution. Choice of three standardised tests, submit one: GRE general scores in verbal and quantitative sections; Miller Analogies Test (MAT): Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). Scores must be provided by the testing authority (this admissions information is not required if the applicant has already completed a graduate degree). For graduates of universities where English is not their native language they must achieve the minimum scores required in the TOEFL test. Another requirement is three years of paid work experience with supervisory or managerial responsibilities. Cost This depends on how many hours the learner needs to take.

Students examine and analyse the principles, theories and application of security at graduate level. Graduates of this programme typically pursue careers in federal or local government civil service, general public or private management, military service, law enforcement and private security.

Requirements A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Cost Tuition is US$250 per credit hour for undergraduate-level courses and US$275 per credit hour for graduate-level courses. Audited courses are US$100 per credit hour.
