The indomitable Robert Chua Wah-peng, LoDown is happy to report, is making a quick recovery after a four-hour brain operation to remove a small tumour this week. Mr Chua, 61, said the surgery was the reason he urgently asked an old school friend, Chu Pui-hing, to help him with his interactive television channel.

'Mr Chu is an old personal friend. I asked him to advise my team during my absence,' he said, referring to the new Interactive Health & Lifestyle Channel on i-Cable and HK Broadband.

Mr Chua said his friend was working for free, so had not breached government guidelines for newly retired officials. The former broadcasting director left RTHK over the small matter of Coco Lau (pictured), a karaoke hostess with whom he was photographed in Causeway Bay. 'You know he is a workaholic. He just can't stop. I wish he'd really take this operation as an opportunity to get some rest,' Mr Chua's assistant told LoDown. We wish him a speedy recovery.
