Valentine meals cater to expectant mothers in each trimester

Valentine's Day is approaching. Perhaps mindful that some Valentine dates were particularly successful at its hotel last year, the Langham in Tsim Sha Tsui is promoting a series of new dishes for women in different stages of pregnancy.

Its Chinese restaurant, the Tang Court, is offering four different meals, presented creatively - you guessed it! - in a Pregnancy Menu specially created by executive chef Siu Hin-chi.

'In the early stage of pregnancy, women need extra folic acid, calcium and iron, and the best food sources of these nutrients are dairy products, fish and beans,' Mr Siu (right) said. 'In later stages, when the fetus grows more rapidly, pregnant women need high protein and calcium.'

So, for your first trimester, you have boiled sea whelk, sauteed bird's nest with milk, sliced garoupa, and walnut cream for dessert. Then try boiled fish maw, stir-fried fresh prawns, sliced chicken with dates, and boiled fresh milk with snow fungus for the second trimester.

For the final period, there is stewed diced cod, stir-fried beef rolls, pan-fried chicken in lemon sauce, white mushrooms in clear broth and bird's nest congee. Oh, almost forgot - there is a postnatal menu too, but you get the idea.

Each meal takes a day to prepare so you have to order 24 hours beforehand. It will set you back HK$500 per person. Wonder if the hotel offers a discount if you dated at their restaurants - or guest rooms, as the case may be - last year.
