I'd really like to detox for the new year and I hear vitamin C products for skin are very good. Where

can I get this healthy new routine for my face?

Juicy Skin, Aberdeen

The Dictator rules: It's a good thing you don't follow every bit of advice you receive (I hope). As far as we can tell, vitamin C is usually associated with brightening and age-defying skin-care treatments, and is promoted as an antioxidant. Buy an established brand and you can't go too wrong. Murad, a spa favourite, has an entire line of vitamin C products (easily recognisable by its orange packaging). Try it out with the Murad Vitamin C Infusion home facial kit (HK$754; spaforlife.hk, tel: 2845 3305; and also at the associated Paua spas). The weekly regime helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. N.V. Perricone's Vitamin C Ester Amine Complex Face Lift (HK$920; Joyce Beauty, shop 307, Times Square, Causeway Bay, tel: 2970 2319) aims to firm the skin and add a youthful glow and is non-irritating. Sasa sells Cellex-C, a pioneering brand in the use of vitamin C in skin care that was developed by a biologist who focused on cell research. It offers a variety of treatment serums (HK$480 to HK$920) but be sure you understand their uses before you start slapping them on. Want more? Look for brands such as Juice Beauty, Decleor, Jason Natural, Avalon and Philosophy.

Do you know who has Stella/Notify jeans?

Trouser Press, Peng Chau

The Dictator: I'm good but I'm not that good. I'm not the Big Brother of retail and I don't have the power to track people's purchases.

Oh wait, you mean where to buy Stella McCartney x Notify jeans? That's a bit easier, although only a few pieces from the one-off collaboration between the fashion designer and the cutting-edge denim brand have begun to trickle into Hong Kong. There are two choices: a skinny style for that sexy signature Stella look, innovatively made without side seams using Notify's technology, and a more relaxed 'boyfriend' cut with a higher waist (HK$3,990 each; Lane Crawford, IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2118 7777). You can shop without guilt because sales of the jeans raise money for Marine Connection, an organisation that protects the world's oceans and the dolphins and whales in them.

I hate the cat carriers you find in most veterinary surgeries and I love fashion. Can you tell me where to buy a designer one?

Kitty Couture, Causeway Bay

The Dictator: Perish the thought that your pet carrier should clash with your outfit. It comes as no surprise that there are others like you in the world. Perhaps the most recognisable designer pet carrier is in Louis Vuitton's monogram canvas with a breathable mesh window with roll-up flap. It's available in two sizes (HK$13,800 and HK$15,200; shop G06, Lee Gardens, Causeway Bay, tel: 8100 1182; www.louisvuitton.com). The Juicy Couture dog carrier (they're OK for cats too) makes more of a statement. It has mesh windows on the side, a heart shape at one end and comes in about five colours, from trademark pink velour to black patent leather (HK$3,700 to HK$4,300; shop 317, Times Square, tel: 2118 2980). Although several luxury brands make pet carriers, not many are available in the Hong Kong market. Try shopping online, where you might stumble upon the cute www.trixieandpeanut.com, whose carrier selection may not be designer but it's design-oriented.
