CotaiJet to resume HK-Macau ferry run
A new Hong Kong-Macau ferry service resumed ticket sales yesterday for a restart of services today, a month after a court injunction forced it to stop operating.
Last week, a Macau court lifted an injunction against CotaiJet, which is controlled by US gaming giant Las Vegas Sands.
CotaiJet ferried passengers between Sheung Wan and the newly opened temporary Pac On terminal near Sands' Venetian Macao casino complex on Taipa.
Ferry services to and from Macau are dominated by companies owned by casino magnate Stanley Ho Hung-sun, whose gaming empire has faced stiff competition from United States rivals since his 40-year casino monopoly ended.
CotaiJet's catamarans operated 20 trips a day before the Court of Second Instance granted
Hong Kong North West Express the injunction. It had sought a review of Macau Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau-wah's decision to grant Las Vegas Sands ferry operation rights to and from Pac On. It argued the Macau government did not conduct an open tender when it awarded a licence to CotaiJet and a company run by Macau businessman Ng Fok.
