Gold Coast-based company Surfster has been supplying Australian body boarders with wave-riding products for more than 20 years. Its latest is an inflatable body board ideal for use on surf or snow. Touted as ideal for children older than eight to serious enthusiasts, the travel-friendly Jbay is inflated by attaching a mini hand pump (included) to a specially designed valve. It is easy to operate and the board inflates from a compact rolled-beach-towel size to a 117cm by 81cm by 13cm board in 90 seconds. Conventional hand or foot pumps may also be used.

Once inflated the board is surprisingly robust. Made of durable neoprene PVC, which does not cause the skin rash associated with regular body boards, the underside is covered with a tough, slick tarpaulin for fast movement on water and ice. An internal 'bladder' contains an additive that prevents the PVC cracking in freezing temperatures. The Jbay features high 'wings' that hold the rider comfortably in place and make it easier to stay on the board when navigating rough surf. Foam web handles on either side of the board mean it is easy to guide. A coiled safety leash ensures it is not lost in rough conditions.

Care of the board is simple; wash with fresh water and when dry, roll up and store out of the sun. Weighing 2.7kg, the Surfster Jbay costs A$169 (HK$1,180) and is available at www.surfsterboards.com, which delivers to Hong Kong.
