Canto-pop mum makes a wish for family harmony

Becoming a mother has made singer Kay Tse On-kay more philosophical about life. A year ago she had just married fellow artist Louis Cheung Kai-chung and was five months' pregnant with son James. Since then, her situation and priorities have changed. The Canto-pop career gave way to matters a bit more significant, like family and son, and that reflects her choice of causes now.

On Saturday, Tse lent her support to the Make A Wish foundation. For the Lunar New Year, it is raising money with a wishing tree at the LCX outlets at Fashion Walk in Causeway Bay and Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui. The charity fulfils the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses.

'The Hong Kong chapter has been established for 10 years and has helped over 900 young patients to realise their dreams,' Tse said. 'My 2008 New Year wish is simple: I hope every family in Hong Kong can live in harmony. When I was a kid, I often had these big ideas of world peace. But as I grew up I realised that's not something I personally can achieve. Therefore, I want to start from something small ... like the family unit. If people spend more time looking after their children, taking care of our elderly, treasuring their family members, I think there would be fewer domestic tragedies. That's what I'm writing for my tree wish.'
